The Best Cheeseburger Sliders

When you want to make burgers but don’t want to go through the trouble of forming each patty and mini cheeseburger sliders are the perfect fix! Make the meat ahead of time and assemble when you’re ready.

Assembly is simple, top slider buns with seasoned ground beef and sliced cheese and you’re all set! They are perfectly game day or party ready.

You can serve your cheeseburger sliders as is or add your favorite toppings, like tomatoes, lettuce and pickles.

Ingredients for Burger Sliders

  • Ground Beef – I tend to go lean ground beef with these so they aren’t quite as greasy or messy.
  • Spices – Cumin, chipotle chili powder, onion powder, and garlic salt to season the ground beef. Instead of garlic salt, you can use garlic powder and add the salt separately.
  • Dinner Rolls – Use your favorite; any slider sized roll works.
  • Sharp Cheddar Cheese – For sliders, I recommend buying the pre-sliced cheese from the deli.
  • Butter – Melted and brushed on top of the siders for extra flavor and to help the sesame seeds stick.
  • Sesame Seeds – Optional, but I think they look so much more fun!
  • Tomato, Lettuce, and Pickles – Optional, for topping.

How To Make Cheeseburger Sliders

Be sure to check the recipe card below for full ingredients & instructions.

  • Cook the ground beef in a large skillet until it is browned and cooked all the way through. Drain the excess grease from the pan and add the spices, cooking for a couple more minutes.
  • Slice the dinner rolls in half and place the bottom halves on a baking sheet. If you have a slab of rolls, try to keep them intact, but as you can see it’s ok if you don’t.
  • Top each slider bottom with a couple spoonfuls of the cooked ground beef mixture. Add cheese on top. You can slice the cheese to fit, break them in half or even use shredded cheddar.
  • Replace the tops of the rolls and brush on melted butter. Sprinkle sesame seeds over the top.
  • Broil the sliders on high for 3-5 minutes, or until the tops begin to brown. The cheese should melt from the heat in the oven. I like doing it this way because the cheese gets melted and stays melty instead of browning.
  • Remove the top bun and add the toppings of your choice, serve, and enjoy!

FAQs

What is the difference between hamburgers and sliders?

A hamburger is made by forming a large patty of ground beef and grilling it. They can also be cooked on the stovetop. One patty equals one serving. Sliders are basically a miniature version of a hamburger.

How much hamburger is in a slider?

In this recipe, 1 ½ pounds of ground beef makes about a dozen sliders.

How many sliders are needed per person?

Serving size is really determined by how you are serving. For an appetizer, one slider is generally enough. If serving as a meal, you want to have 2-3 sliders per person.

Serving Suggestions

Serve sliders as part of a hearty appetizer spread. They can be the main appetizers with supporting sides like Loaded Cheese Fries and Caprese Skewers. Or serve them as appetizers for dinner with a side of tater tops, potato chips or fries.

Variations

  • Feel free to change up the seasonings if you prefer something a little different, or a little more mild. For more of a savory flavor, add a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce.
  • For the cheese, you can use cheddar, jack, American cheese or Swiss – or a combination of your favorites.
  • Toppings are completely optional. It’s perfectly acceptable to serve sliders with just cheese and meat and maybe a ketchup and mustard.

Storing and Reheating Leftovers

Storage: Leftover sliders should be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. The meat can be prepped one day in advance and stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container or bowl tightly sealed with plastic wrap.

Reheating: Simply reheat the sliders in the microwave until heated all the way through.

Freezing: The sliders can be fully prepped and frozen without being broiled. When you are ready to serve them, simply preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for 12-16 minutes, or until they are heated all the way through.

Expert Tips

  • I recommend regular dinner rolls or slider buns but you can use Hawaiian rolls if you like. Just keep in mind that the sweetness will be apparent.
  • Drain as much grease as possible from the meat, or you could end up with soggy buns.
  • Make sure to apply the sesame seeds as soon as you brush with butter so they’ll stick to the buns.
  • The specified broil time tends to vary depending on your oven so it is important to keep an eye on them to make sure they don’t begin to burn.
