FAQs
Yes, you can use plain yogurt, or plain Greek yogurt in place of the sour cream. A fat free sour cream is fine, too.
Blue cheese has a sharp and salty taste, and a pungent scent. The dip is a little chunky, but still has a creamy texture.
There are dozens of varieties of blue cheese, the most common being Roquefort, Stilton and Gorgonzola.
Dipper Suggestions
This creamy dip is great with a variety of dippers, and can be made into a dressing too.
Here are some of my favorite things to pair with blue cheese:
- Crispy Baked Buffalo Wings – Probably my favorite thing to pair with blue cheese is buffalo chicken wings.
- Raw vegetables – carrot sticks, celery sticks, bell pepper, broccoli, snap peas, etc.
- Potato chips – I particularly like Kettle style chips with this dip.
- Crackers – Entertainment style crackers are nice and crispy.
- Sauce – Spread onto a sandwich or burger, or on top of baked chicken breasts.
- Wedge Salad – Cut iceberg lettuce into wedges, and top with bacon, diced tomatoes and this dip.
Expert Tips
- Storage: Store any leftover dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It should last about 4-5 days.
- To make blue cheese dressing: Whisk in buttermilk until you are happy with the consistency.
- Customize: Feel free to tweak the amounts for a taste you love. More or less blue cheese, more or less sour cream, salt and pepper. A little mayonnaise will make this dip even creamier.
- Chill – While you can serve this dip right away, it’s best when it’s had time to chill.
- No food processors or blender needed, but if you really want to use one you can. I prefer the chunky texture with little bites of real blue cheese.
